The Newark Sugar Kings second baseman tore into Scottsdale for 5 hits in 5 at-bats and wrote his name into the record book. But it wasn't enough to win the game. The Scottsdale Vampires swept past the Sugar Kings 7-4 to ruin the day for him.
The Newark manager bemoaned his pitching, saying, "We fell behind and weren't locating well. Once you get behind in the count, you have to make real good pitches, rather than good pitches, and we weren't able to do that today. Bad location was the story of the ballgame. That's why we lost the game. The Vampires got too many good looks today, and we paid for it."
E. Velez singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 6th and doubled in the 9th.
This season Velez is hitting .388 with 2 home runs. | | | Pitching Staff | | Role | Throws | Pitcher | W | L | SV | ERA | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 58-62, .483 PCT | | Position in Division | 11th, 20.0 GB | | Record at home | 28-32, .467 PCT | | Record on the road | 30-30, .500 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 5-5, .500 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 15-15, .500 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 23-16, .590 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 35-46, .432 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 5-5, .500 PCT | | Record in April | 11-13, .458 PCT | | Record in May | 9-20, .310 PCT | | Record in June | 18-8, .692 PCT | | Record in July | 12-16, .429 PCT | | Record in August | 8-5, .615 PCT |
