| Breaking News |  | Monday, August 13th, 2007: Pena Takes This Week's Trophy Tony Pena has been in a real groove lately. The 26-year-old Corpus Christi Tourists shortstop nabbed Sub League 2 Player of the Week honors today after beating up on opposing pitchers all last week.
Pena's hot streak featured 14 hits in 33 at-bats, no home runs, 3 RBIs, 4 runs scored and a .424 average.
Pena is hitting at a .315 mark this season. His stats show 2 home runs, 61 RBIs and 77 runs scored. He has played 109 games for the Tourists. |  | Saturday, July 28th, 2007: Stockton Humbles Corpus Christi A masterful pitching performance carried the Stockton Steelhawks to a 12-0 victory over Corpus Christi. Nate Cornejo held them scoreless in a complete game effort. He permitted 2 hits, had 2 strikeouts and allowed no walks.
The skipper of the Tourists said, "Cornejo was sharp. We never did figure him out."
To date in 2007, Cornejo has registered 7 starts, 3-1 won-lost mark, 1.65 ERA, 49 IP, 12 strikeouts and 7 walks. Opposing teams have hit .194 against him. |  | Tuesday, July 24th, 2007: Big Day with Bat, Phillips 5-5 Andy Phillips told the press after his 5-hit day, "Every batter wants to have a quality at-bat every time he steps up to the plate. He wants to hit the ball hard."
Well, that's just what Phillips of the Hialeah Abbots did against the Corpus Christi Tourists. He went to the plate 5 times and 5 times he delivered base hits, much to the chagrin of the Tourists, who suffered a 10-9 defeat.
"Not much that I can say," offered the losing manager, "he just hammered the heck out of us."
A. Phillips doubled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, walked in the 5th, singled in the 7th, singled in the 8th and singled in the 9th.
