| Breaking News | | Saturday, August 4th, 2007: Newark's Buchholz Shuts Out Gnats The Sigourney Gnats were almost helpless today in their 4-0 loss to Newark hurler Clay Buchholz. He kept them confused the entire ballgame and spun a 5-hit shutout.
The Sigourney manager said in the postgame interview, "Tip your hat to Buchholz. He kept us off balance all night."
Buchholz said, "It just happened to be one of those games where even when I made mistakes, they either fouled them off or someone would make a fine defensive play. It was just one of those games that things went my way."
He had 2 walks and no strikeouts in a strong performance.
Over the season Buchholz has thrown 118.2 innings and dished out 16 strikeouts with a 7-10 mark and a 3.87 ERA. | | Wednesday, April 11th, 2007: Stewart Batters Moline Acres Big Time! 5 hits in a game has always been a magic number in baseball. Only a handful of players will do that. Get 5 hits in a game and you get your moment of glory...your 5 minutes of fame...you get your name in the record book. Win or lose you get listed.
Chris Stewart got his name in the record book, but the Moline Acres Blazers picked up the win, topping the Sigourney Gnats 12-11.
"Sure, I would have much preferred to win the game, but that's not how it came out. In baseball you win some, lose some and some get rained out," the Sigourney catcher expressed his feelings during the postgame press conference.
He certainly did his part today, pounding out hit after hit.
Later in the clubhouse Stewart spoke further about his big game, "To hit the ball consistently well, you have to relax. I was relaxed for the first four hits, but I must admit, I got too much adrenaline going when I realized that this was a special once-in-a-lifetime day. On the last hit, I was ready to swing at anything close, I was that excited. That's why my third base coach called time and told me, 'Calm down and wait for a good pitch.' That got me back on track and I nailed the first one in the strike zone."
On his record-setting day Stewart delivered 5 hits in 6 at-bats, a day that will be good scrapbook material.
C. Stewart flied out in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 6th, hit an RBI single in the 7th and hit a two-run home run off M. Asencio in the 9th.
To date Stewart has chalked up a .478 average with 1 home run, driven in 8 runs and scored 7 times. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 71-49, .592 PCT | | Position in Division | 2nd, 2.0 GB | | Record at home | 37-23, .617 PCT | | Record on the road | 34-26, .567 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 9-2, .818 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 22-16, .579 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 18-6, .750 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 53-43, .552 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 7-3, .700 PCT | | Record in April | 14-10, .583 PCT | | Record in May | 21-8, .724 PCT | | Record in June | 11-15, .423 PCT | | Record in July | 17-11, .607 PCT | | Record in August | 8-5, .615 PCT |
