At the age of 30, Simon Pond might have some potential he hasn't realized yet -- if his success at the plate last week is any indication. The Center Line left fielder put up some exceptional numbers the past seven days collecting the Sub League 1 Player of the Week Award.
He racked up 9 hits in 25 at-bats, no home runs and 2 RBIs last week in 6 games.
Thus far this season Pond is hitting .356 with 1 home run, 18 RBIs and 14 runs scored. He has 36 hits in 101 at-bats and has played in 24 games. |
| Monday, July 2nd, 2007: Sub League 1 Selects Best Performer
The hottest bat of the week belonged to Center Line first baseman Carlos Mendez.
He went on a rampage last week against SL1 hurlers and rapped out 11 hits in 28 at-bats for a .393 average while hitting 1 home run, driving in 7 runs and scoring 3 runs -- numbers quite worthy of the Sub League 1 Player of the Week trophy.
Mendez was honored today at a press conference.
