Friday, August 10th, 2007: Great Stroke! Stewart Gets 5 Hits!
It was a sensational day at the plate for Ian Stewart, but a letdown as well as the Slashers dropped the game 6-5 to the Mountain Hawks.

Nonetheless the Mascotte third baseman was pure misery for the Shreveport pitching staff. He left them shellshocked with 5 hits in 7 at-bats in an explosive display of hitting.

"It's always good to get a bunch of hits in a game, but you also want to win. That's the important thing," Stewart said.

The manager for the Mountain Hawks told SION reporters after the game, "Stewart put the ball into play. He really hit it hard. When you do that, you've got a pretty good chance to do some damage. And that's what happened. I feel like we threw him some pretty good pitches, but he just put some good swings on the ball."

I. Stewart singled in the 1st, grounded out in the 3rd, hit an RBI double in the 5th, singled in the 7th, hit an RBI single in the 9th, struck out in the 11th and singled in the 13th.

A look at his season totals shows Stewart with 2 home runs, .341 BA, .375 OBP, 7 RBIs and 7 runs scored.
Saturday, May 5th, 2007: Navarro Batters Mascotte for 5 Hits
Oswaldo Navarro told the press after his 5-hit day, "Every batter wants to have a quality at-bat every time he steps up to the plate. He wants to hit the ball hard."

Well, that's just what Navarro of the Great River Law did against the Mascotte Slashers. He went to the plate 5 times and 5 times he delivered base hits, much to the chagrin of the Slashers, who suffered a 4-0 defeat.

"Not much that I can say," offered the losing manager, "he just hammered the heck out of us."

O. Navarro singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and hit a solo-shot off J. Unknown in the 9th.

This season Navarro is batting .423 with 2 home runs. His totals include 4 RBIs and 6 runs scored.
Friday, May 4th, 2007: Slashers Fear Worst, Unknown's Career Over
The Mascotte Slashers clubhouse was subdued last night after Joe Unknown was seriously injured during the game. Unknown was taken to a local hospital for examination. This morning, doctors confirmed the preliminary diagnosis of a fractured elbow. They said Unknown will undergo surgery in the near future. This type of injury, they said, will require extensive rehabilitation. For all intents and purposes, his career in baseball is over.

It remains to be seen how Unknown's loss will affect the rest of the team. The Slashers owner, when reached for comment, said he planned to visit Unknown later today. "It is a sad day for us," he said, "We have lost a class individual. I hope that we can keep him in our organization as a coach or manager as soon as he recovers. Joe still has a lot to contribute to our baseball team."
