| Breaking News | | Monday, May 7th, 2007: Toughest Out of the Week Wins SL1 Award His face might be sun-baked after all the years he's invested in this game, but Jeff Kent of the Rochester Commissioners is still playing a kid's game -- and getting paid for it. The veteran second baseman had a tremendous last week and was named the Sub League 1 Player of the Week.
Kent drilled 11 hits in 25 at-bats and 3 home runs on his way to posting a .440 average. He also knocked in 13 runs and scored 5 times.
This year Kent is hitting .342, produced 25 RBIs and 7 home runs, scored 19 times and gotten on base at a .400 rate. | | Sunday, May 6th, 2007: Adams Slaps 5 Hits Russ Adams was on quite a roll today as he knocked the ball all over the park, collecting 5 hits and leading the Commissioners to a 4-1 victory over the Wenatchee Carpenters.
After the first three hits, all eyes in the ballpark were drawn to him each time he stepped into the batter's box. Even a few of the opposing fans were pulling for him, knowing they were watching a little baseball-hitting history unfold.
In the clubhouse, crowded by reporters, the Rochester third baseman said, "I never realized that batting a little ball around could cause so much commotion." When asked what the secret of hitting so well is, he smiled and replied, "The key to hitting for a high average is to relax, concentrate and hit the ball where they ain't."
Nobody was at home today as Adams finished the day with 5 hits in 5 at-bats and a line in the record book.
R. Adams hit an RBI single in the 1st, singled in the 4th, doubled in the 7th, singled in the 9th and hit a two-run double in the 10th.
Adams is hitting .311 so far this season with 12 RBIs and 14 runs scored. He has 32 hits including no home runs, 14 walks and .393 OBP. | | Monday, April 30th, 2007: Star of the Week Selected in SL1 There's no arguing that Jeff Kent has paid his dues and this this week he collected.
