| Breaking News |  | Monday, August 20th, 2007: Selmer Jackhammers Capture Championship Series You could hear the cheering all over Selmer as the Jackhammers secured the final out of a 12-3 win over the Tamaqua Pickets to capture the 2007 MLB Double A Championship Series 3-1. It was the 1st time in the team's history to win it.
"The Pickets are a good ballclub," said the winning skipper, "We had to play at our best to beat them."
"Anytime you make big plays, it changes the momentum of the game," the losing manager said. "The Jackhammers made 'em and we didn't -- end of story."
During the season the new champs compiled a 73-47 record in the Sub League 1 and finished in first place in the standings. |  | Sunday, July 15th, 2007: Gomez Bangs Out 5 Base Hits Players get multi-hit games all the time. But a 5-hit game only comes around once in a blue moon. It happened at Tamaqua Grounds when Carlos Gomez of Tamaqua scattered 5 hits all over the ballpark against the Birmingham Elks.
He walloped 5 hits in 5 at-bats in his career-day performance to help the Pickets get by the Elks 9-3.
In a talkative and jovial mood after the game, the left fielder of the Pickets exclaimed, "Whoa, my swing was really, really there today. I made some good, sweet-spot contact and when that happens...good things happen...like 5-5. I could get used to a lot of days like this one."
C. Gomez hit an RBI single in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 6th and singled in the 8th.
Thus far this year Gomez is batting .330 with 13 home runs, 46 RBIs and 54 runs scored. |  | Monday, July 2nd, 2007: Diaz on Fire, Named Player of the Week This week's Player of the Week was Victor Diaz of the Tamaqua Pickets.
