Alan Embree might be in the twilight of his career, but he is not going to leave the stage before the final act. Today the 37-year-old scribbled his signature on a $5,564,800-per-year deal with the Braves.
Some fans openly questioned the signing, saying they would prefer the club use its resources on younger talent.
So far in his career Embree has 59 saves with a 37-35 record and a 3.83 ERA. |
| Tuesday, December 18th, 2007: Rowand, Atlanta Iron out Deal
Atlanta fans could barely contain their jubilation as Aaron Rowand, considered one of the best at his position, opted to sign with the club.
The deal, estimated at $13,414,800 over 3 years, is seen as a masterstroke for the General Manager's office and could well go down as one of the shrewdest moves in club history.
For his career Rowand has hit at a .268 clip. Among his lifetime numbers are 958 hits, 236 doubles, 20 triples, 102 home runs and 494 RBIs. |

Atlanta fans hailed the signing of 19-year-old Bobby Phillips today as a great move for the long-term viability of the organization. Known as a fiercely loyal teammate, Phillips is expected to earn every last cent of the $1,499,400 promised over 1 year.
The team hopes that he will be the regular catcher for some time.
